The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said that Venture Global LNG has taken adequate measures to fix equipment problems at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export plant as these problems have kept the operator from delivering cargoes to long-term contract customers for two years.
In fact, the FERC has concluded that Venture Global has not yet fully completed the commissioning process at the plant in Louisiana.
Earlier, the FERC had ordered Venture Global LNG to present perfect documents about the mechanical problems and start-up of the Calcasieu Pass LNG plant to its long-term customers including BP, Shell, Edison, Repsol, Galp Energia and others.
The major European energy companies have asked the FERC to force Venture Global LNG to release documents to determine why commercial operations not yet announced after 2-year and also asked to reject Venture Global LNG's request for a one-year construction permit extension to its Calcasieu Pass plant LNG plant.
The US LNG producer has been in deep dispute with its main LNG buyers since nearly 2-year ago over its “deliberately” delaying the commercial operations date (COD) of the Calcasieu Pass project, which the European buyers believe has "detrimental consequences" for energy security in Europe at a “critical time”.
Venture Global has repeatedly rejected the buyers’ claims saying its plant is not fully operational due to faulty power equipment that is being repaired as it is entitled to sell "commissioning" cargoes for its own accounts under the contracts.
The 11.25 MMT/Y Calcasieu Pass exported its first LNG cargo to France in March 2022 and remains in the commissioning mode so far as Venture Global has been selling all cargoes in the spot markets.
