INPEX has released its 10-year development plan, under which the Japanese operator aims “to achieve significant growth over the next decade” by expanding the liquefaction capacity of the Ichthys LNG plant in Australia and achieving final investment decision (FID) for Indonesia’s Abadi LNG project in 2027.
The Abadi LNG project is targeted to start up by 2030s and Ichthys expansion by the first half of 2030s.

INPEX has remarked that it “grew largely over the last decade” through starting up Ichthys LNG. “We aim to continue to grow by executing development projects such as Abadi LNG and Ichthys LNG expansion while ensuring profitability.”

According to the Global LNG Database®, INPEX has already secured extra land for an additional LNG processing train (T3) in the Ichthys LNG plant. In addition, the facility’s debottlenecking works to increase its sustainable capacity by 4.5% (from 8.9 MMT/Y to 9.3 MMT/Y) are underway.

Ichthys LNG export project’s partners are INPEX (operator) 66.245%, totalenergies 26%, CPC 2.625%, Tokyo Gas 1.575%, Osaka Gas 1.2%, Kansai Electric 1.2%, JERA 0.735% and Toho Gas 0.42%.

Ichthys LNG plant’s partners accelerate participation in the exploration of new gas resources in the vicinity of Ichthys gas field intending to expand the plant and “ensure a sustained LNG production volume” over the long term.
