Alexandroupolis FSRU has received its first commissioning cargo delivered by the 174,000-CM Gaslog Hong Kong as she had loaded the cargo at the US-based Cameron LNG plant.
The FSRU arrived at its operating location in Greece in December after less than one month journey from Seatriumās shipyard in Singapore where the firm had undertaken works to convert the 155,000-CM Gaslog Chelsea LNG vessel into the Alexandroupolis FSRU.
The vessel was built in 2010 by Hanjin Heavy Industries, S. Korea.
The 3.5 MMT/Y Alexandroupolis FSRU project was planned to start commercial operations in the first quarter of 2024. The Gastrade-operated project aimed to supply gas to southeastern Europe via the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) natural gas pipeline.
Greece and Bulgaria have said that the Greek new LNG imports facility would help create a new gas route for European markets and cut reliance on Russian gas at a crucial moment.
Svitzer provides towage service for the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal under its 15-year agreement with Gastrade.
